Official Dyno reports our 505 engine with this cam selection, single plane intake, Bravo cylinder head, Brawler 950 carburetor and MSD splitter.
Official Dyno report on this cam option, Bravo head, dual plane intake, Brawler 850 carb and HEI dealer. This cam produces tremendous torque in the low rev range. We highly recommend this cam for applications requiring very high torque in the low RPM range.
Listed below are some important solutions that can prevent valve train problems while giving your engine the best performance and life when running large lift cams.
Solutions for running hydropower. Properly sized roller cams in bbc engines are an easy, low cost fix thanks to Howards Max Effort lifters and Comp light springs. Costing only slightly more than regular Howards street trolley lifts, they are easily the most stable hydraulic lifts available. Roller lifts on the market don't need to go all out. weightlifter. The Max Efforts are also very quiet. Not sure they can hold a stable rev range, but we've cranked some of our bbc engines into the 6500 rpm range to figure out where a particular build drops off. With these special lifts, the hp level drops gradually to 400 rpm over the max hp rpm range, which is the way it should be. We now use these lifters with all three of our bbc camera selections.
The next big cause of valve train instability when running cams in the upper lift and duration ranges of a bbc engine is too low spring pressure. Regardless of what some may say is correct spring pressure, we all know what it should be for safe operation and good performance. According to some uninformed authority, this number is slightly higher, but too low a spring pressure when running a cam of this size will ensure the valve floats.
If you have weak springs or the wrong pressure range in your setup, this will have to be corrected. We provide a suitable set of Comp valve springs that will work perfectly with this cam. They do not require particularly long valves. We are very happy with the seat to nose ratio. These springs are also much lighter weight than the springs we were used to, which is a real advantage when trying to stabilize a valve train on a bbc engine running close to or above 6000 rpm.
As you know bbc hyd has bigger lifts. Roller cams on the market, we've used them for those running Pro-Street setups. These also require a different type of lifter and special spring than what we use when running our regular Comp Cam. We have a lot of experience with how to get the valve train set up correctly as we have dyno'ed many bbc street rod engines.
Big Chevrolet engines have problems running a healthy sized hybrid. If the valve train is installed incorrectly, the roller cam. It's important to fix this before starting the build.
We also offer this cam in a stepped nose oe roller style for use with later model blocks or blocks with cam locking plates.

You have to have enough cubic inches and/or compression, plus a properly sized cylinder head, to provide enough Flow to justify a specific size cam. Bottom end and midrange performance will always suffer when you increase the cam size, but it will suffer even more if the cam is chosen too large for top end power effect. So choosing a cam that is too large creates problems in two ways. It also becomes more difficult to adjust if the cam is larger than it needs to be.
